The Self-Awareness Series
Welcome! This series of affirmations and tips are designed to enhance your self-awareness, the quality of your relationships, and your overall happiness.
Our patterns of thinking lead to our perceptions of ourselves and others, and out of those perceptions we react and take action. By selecting our thoughts, we begin to form new ways of processing our experiences and develop conscious, productive ways of interacting with life.
Making lasting change requires persistence and support. I am here to support you in identifying specific barriers in your process and to help you practice new approaches consistent with your best self. Call me at (816) 359-1885 to schedule an Individual Session or Couples Imago Therapy.
I notice my internal reactions, including sensations and emotions.
When emotionally triggered by external circumstances or a difficult conversation with a loved one, I love myself enough to turn my gaze inward and bring interest and care to my internal feedback. Taking my time, I gather all the information both internally and externally in order to soothe parts of myself that may otherwise draw hasty conclusions or have hurtful reactions.
The process of observing allows me to hear my needs and compose an external response that is compassionate and supports the outcome I desire. The act of attending to myself allows me to be more constructive and helpful and create experiences in my relationships that I desire.
Create Space for Self-Reflection
Practice slowing down and reassuring yourself you have plenty of time to communicate in the world. When concerns or requests arise in your relationships, try saying, “I need to think about this.” This will allow you to create the internal and external norm that you have time to self-reflect. Even if you only create a brief pause for yourself, you will find you create space for your creative and intuitive self to guide you.
