The Self-Awareness Series

Welcome!  This series of affirmations and tips are designed to enhance your self-awareness, the quality of your relationships, and your overall happiness.

Our patterns of thinking lead to our perceptions of ourselves and others, and out of those perceptions we react and take action. By selecting our thoughts, we begin to form new ways of processing our experiences and develop conscious, productive ways of interacting with life.

Making lasting change requires persistence and support. I am here to support you in identifying specific barriers in your process and to help you practice new approaches consistent with your best self. Call me at (816) 359-1885 to schedule an Individual Session or Couples Imago Therapy.

AFFIRMATION

Nurture

I cultivate a deep self-awareness and learn to nurture my own healing and growth.

In order to nurture myself, I need to be aware of my own feelings and treat them with import. Awareness of my feelings leads me to clarity regarding my own needs. My feelings may be solely about current events or have a history beyond my current circumstances.

Through noticing my own inner angst, I have the opportunity to reflect on the origins of my feelings. Out of this awareness of my feelings and experiences, I begin the healing process. I may come to recognize that in order to care for this feeling, I need additional support in the form of a self-help program or therapy, or my feelings may point to very specific ways I can nurture myself, such as taking time to rest.

Today I commit to listen to my feelings and respond to them in a nurturing way.

TIP

Listening to My Feelings

Get in the habit of asking yourself how you feel. You can do this by keeping a feeling journal or by inner inquiry during your mindfulness practice. Once you identify your feelings, ask yourself, what do your feelings indicate that you need? If you are exhausted, for example, you may need rest. If you are lonely, you may need contact. If you are worried, you may need information, and so forth. Commit to taking self-supportive actions regarding your feelings.
